Mariana Martínez Balvanera works within the realm of critical spatial practices, combining architecture, participatory art, and social design. Her practice involves the design of narrative and public spaces, tools, and processes that involve themes of commoning, agroecology, knowledge exchange, sense of place, autonomy, and collective pedagogies within urban and rural settings. She is co-founder of Cocina Colaboratorio, a transdisciplinary platform that gathers farmers, scientists, artists, and cooks around the kitchen table, the plot, and a biocultural living archive. It experiment with the notions of food and territory while working towards sustainable and just futures.
